This is for the sixth time that the “Wood Art” Technical School is organizing the international creative workshop “Design Playground”. High school students from their EU partner schools are taking part in the workshop together with their hosts. The workshop will be held in the School building and it will last from 3rd to 7th March 2014. The students would be making the prototypes as the given theme requires and the amount of the material they could use will be limited. This year the theme is “Desk Lamp” and the students will try to make combinations of traditional and new materials, i.e. of wood and of Rehau Vision materials.

Previous workshops were successful and the students’ achievements were displayed at numerous significant design manifestations (“Belgrade Design Week”, “Mixer Expo Design” “Mikser” and Furniture Fair) as well as in the Museum of Applied Art. For the last two years the international public was being offered opportunity to view the creative works of the “Wood Art” students and their European peers. Creations of young designers were represented at the most prestigious design manifestations like the International Furniture Fair in Milan, i.e. Milan Week of Design and at the Industrial Design Fair in Madrid.

Thanks to exhibiting their works at international fairs, the School established cooperation with foreign social partners from the economic field, the most important being the Austrian company “Bloom”, the world greatest producer of furniture fittings. At the Meeting of the Sectorial Group on movement of workers, social cooperation, human resources development, information society, and innovation within the Enhanced Permanent Dialogue between the Republic of Serbia and the European Union the Creative Workshop “Design Playground” and its social partnership with foreign companies were positively assessed.

The importance of the Workshop was recognized by the Secretariat for Education of the City of Belgrade, Stari Grad municipality and they have been supporting from the very beginning this initiative of the “Wood Art” School, and so did the Erste Bank and the German Rehau Company which donated new materials. The Museum of Applied Art provides the high school students with the exhibition space free of charge.
