The most prestigious review of contemporary Serbian architecture

March 26 – April 30, 2009

Sustainability… pragmatic optimism or new modesty… is the motto of the XXXI Salon of Architecture of the Museum of Applied Art in Belgrade. The spring exhibition period of the Museum opens with this traditional annual exhibition of contemporary architecture. The Salon is a manifestation which fosters plurality and quality of architectonic concepts, building standards as well as new, alternative ideas and projects. It welcomes all generations of architects, young architects from the country and abroad in the first place.

Ljiljana Miletić Abramović, curator of the exhibition pointed out in her contribution to the catalogue of the Salon that the motto of the Salon – Sustainability… pragmatic optimism or new modesty…. “implies ecological and architectural “sustainability”, but also refers to the need for existential sustainability, not only the sustainability in architecture but also the “sustainability” of architecture. Architectural works selected for this year’s Salon – there were hundred and eighty applications competing and less than hundred selected – make a bay of solid architecture in the vast sea of the architectural chaos created by newly-built or half-built “turbo” style edifices and the existing run-down town structures.”
