Exhibition of photographs - Aino Kannisto

19 June – 10 July 2008

The exhibition of Finnish artist Aino Kannisto Staged Photographs is put on within the scope of the Salon of Contemporary Applied Art at the Museum of Applied Art. Kannisto is the recipient of the Museum of Applied Art Award obtained for the series of works “Untitled” that was displayed at the exhibition “Art, Life & Confusion” as a part of the 47th Belgrade October Salon in 2006.

Twenty-five photographs of Aino Kannisto from the opus “Staged Photographs” were produced for the past ten years. Last year, while staying in Belgrade, Kannisto made some of her latest works that would be also shown at the exhibition in the Museum of Applied Art. Actually, Kannisto composes staged photographic self-portraits in a large scale, rendered in the technique of C-print on Aluminum, in which she assumes the role of fictional female characters. The works produced in Belgrade, as well as the most part of other photographs from the above-mentioned opus conjure up the frame of mind of these female characters that, in fact, all together represent the self-portrait of Aino Kannisto.
