FURNITURE DEPARTMENT

In charge of the Department: Marija Bujić, Museum Advisor

The department (sector "D") for stylistic development of furniture and artistic carpentry belongs to the historic departments in the Museum. It dates from 1950, the time of the foundation of the Museum.

The purpose and goal of sector "D" is to represent tendencies in local and European applied art through the development of styles in furniture and different techniques of carpentry.

The collection of painter Ljuba Ivanović, comprised of objects carved in wood, horn and mother of pearl, including carved and painted icons, represented the initial nucleus of the Furniture Department. Owing to frequent acquisitions and considerable gifts, these collections were quickly enlarged and at present the Department possess 819 artefacts, divided into 49 collections.
