The Change of State Equals the Quantum Hypothesis on the Theory of Nonsense, or the Album of Mrs. A

Olivera Ninčić, Belgrade, 1988

Cotton, viscose, combined technique

MAA Inv. No. 8630

The installation by Olivera Nincic "The Change of State Equals the Quantum Hypothesis on the Theory of Nonsense, or the Album of Mrs. A" represents an unconventional creation in the art of textile where the classical genre of portraiture is not common. After a plaster cast of the face of the real Mrs. A, the artist cast eight three-dimensional portraits in the technology similar to the felt. Using different interventions like folding, colouring and piercing with the twigs, each of these portraits reflects different stages of Mrs. A.'s anxiety.

Olivera Nincic (born 1954) is an artist of great individuality. After her studies of tapestry she started to experiment, in line with the new international multimedia art of the 1980s, that transcended not just the conventional divisions to fine and applied arts but also certain specific art disciplines. Created in such an atmosphere, the installation "The Change of Sate Equals the Quantum Hypothesis on the Theory of Nonsense, or the Album of Mrs. A" represents a unique work in the Serbian art and also in the opus of the artist herself.
